Srinagar: There was some respite from the intense cold wave conditions in Kashmir as the minimum temperature improved by several degrees, officials said here on Sunday.

The night temperature at most places in the valley on Saturday night was above normal for this part of the season, the officials said.

The minimum temperature in Srinagar settled at a low of minus 1.2 degrees Celsius – over three degrees up from the previous night’s minus 4.5 degrees Celsius, the officials said.

Gulmarg recorded a low of minus 7 degrees Celsius, up 2.5 degrees from the previous night.

Pahalgam recorded a low of minus 5.4 degrees Celsius, six degrees up from the previous night, they said.

The officials said Qazigund recorded a minimum of minus 3.4 degrees Celsius, while the nearby south Kashmir town of Kokernag recorded a low of minus 4.5 degrees Celsius.

The minimum temperature in Kupwara in north Kashmir settled at a low of minus 2.1 degrees Celsius.

The MET Office said under the influence of a feeble Western Disturbance, the weather is most likely to remain generally cloudy with possibility of very light to light rain/snow in plains of J&K during Sunday to Wednesday and light to moderate snowfall over the higher reaches.

There is no forecast of any major rain/snow till the end of this month, it said.
