Six LeT militant associates held along with arms and ammunition in Sopore, Bandipora: Police

Sopore: The Jammu and Kashmir Police on Saturday claimed to have arrested three over-ground workers of Lashkar-e-Toiba militant outfit along with arms and ammunition in Soporeand Bandipora areas.

A police spokesman said that a joint team of Police, Army’s 22 RR and 179 Bn CRPF arrested three militant associates along with two pistols, two pistol magazines, thirteen pistol rounds and a hand grenade during a naka checking at Chinnar-Darpora crossing in Bomai village.

He identified the arrested OGWs as Arafat Majeed Dar son of Abdul Majeed Dar, Tauseef Ahmed Dar son of Late Ghulam Hassan Dar and Momin Nazir Khan son of Nazir Ahmed Khan-all residents of Sopore.

“On preliminary enquiry, it has been revealed that the arrested persons have been providing logistical and other materialistic support to militants in the area,” he said.

The official said that a case under relevant sections of law has been registered in Police Station Bomai and further investigations have been taken up.

“The police also arrested 03 terrorist associates of proscribed terror outfit LeT after receiving specific input regarding the activities of terrorist associates in Bandipora Town and its adjoining areas,” a police spokesman said.

He identified the arrested as Gh Mohammad, Irshad Hussain both residents of Ashtangoo Bandipora and Ashiq Hussain resident of Sopore. Incriminating materials, arms and ammunition were recovered from their possession.

“Preliminary investigation revealed that these terrorist associates were working to expand the terrorist activities of proscribed terror outfit LeT especially Foreign Terrorists by providing them logistic and other material support including mobile phones and Sim cards. One among the arrested persons is a former terrorist and his anti-national activities have recycled many times during past. Further investigation is going on, said the spokesman.
