Srinagar: An 18-year-old deaf and dumb boy, who went missing on Saturday amid heavy snowfall in Gurez area of Bandipora district, was rescued by the police and locals on Sunday following nightlong rescue operation.

Officials said that the youth, identified as Tariq Ahmad Lone son of Abdul Kareem from Baduaab village of Tulial, was reported missing by family on Saturday after he left his home.

Meanwhile, duty officer Buduaab, Dar Muzaffar told KNS that as the missing person was deaf and dumb, it made the rescue operation more complicated because he couldn’t even raise his voice to alert the rescue team.

Muzaffar said the police launched searches in the nearby area amid heavy snowfall during night and as snowfall subsided on Sunday morning, they were able to track his fresh footsteps on a hilly terrain.

“We followed the steps and found him in knee-deep snow. Later, he was rescued, He is out of danger and is in stable condition now,” Muzaffar said.
