Abandoning Darbar Move – Why? Why Not?

Hasnain Masoodi Former judge of the High Court of J&K, National Conference leader and Sitting Member of Parliament

Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir National Conference Member of Parliament Hasnain Masoodi on Sunday impressed upon the government to give time to selected Nursing and other para-medical diploma candidates to join their training centers owing to the disturbances created by heavy snowfall across Kashmir.

In a statement issued here, Masoodi said that the candidates have successfully passed the entrance and have been asked to join their training centres at various places across the length and breadth of Jammu and Kashmir. He said that these candidates, most of whom hail from far-flung areas, cannot join their training centres in wake of disturbed surface connectivity and thus should be given some time to join the training centres.

“Most of these candidates hail from far-flung areas. How can a candidate, who hails from Kupwara, Handwara or Tral reach his training venue in Doda or Kishtwar? Most of the inter-district roads are yet to be cleared of piled up snow. The impact of the recent snowfall in the hinterland has been much worse. Most of the hamlets in upper reaches across Kashmir are still cut off from their respective district headquarters. The concerned authorities seem to have lost sight of the weather fury and are asking the selected candidates to join their training venues. How on earth can a candidate from Bandipore Hamlet travel all the way to Doda at a time, when he is not able to step out from his house? The authorities should consider giving these candidates some more time to report to training centres,” he said.

Later on, Masoodi also called Vivek Bhardwaj, Additional Chief Secretary, H&ME Department and impressed upon him to mitigate the suffering of the candidates.
