Dir AP&FW Dept reviews functioning of offices at south Kashmir

Srinagar: Director Agriculture Production and Farmers Welfare (AP&FW) Department Kashmir, Chowdhary Mohammad Iqbal, today conducted surprise visit to district Pulwama, District Shopian, Anantnag, Kulgam and Processing Plant at Seed Multiplication Farm Padgampora .

Amid heavy snowfall and current weather conditions, Director Agriculture asked the Chief Agriculture Officers of concerned districts of Kashmir Division to ensure that all the necessary measures are taken to educate the farmers with respect to different steps to be adopted while dealing with the present situation.

Farmers need moral support in addition to technical guidance under prevailing conditions, the Director said.

He also directed the Officers to adhere to the weather advisories issued by the department in letter and spirit.

He further directed the Officers and field functionaries to remain available to the farmers round the clock and asked the officers to remain vigilant so that the current weather situation can be tackled in a  smooth manner.

He also called upon the officers to work with close coordination with the allied departments so that the farmer’s interests could be served under all circumstances.

During the visit, he also inspected hi-tech poly houses of farmers and asked them to remove the snow from the polyhouses from time to time.

During the visit to Processing Plant Padgampora, Director Agriculture said that the Department has started an initiative and is endeavouring to optimize the utility of Departmental farms to attain self-reliance in the field of seed requirement for Kashmir Division.

On the occasion, he said, “We have already fixed bench marks and targets for every departmental farm in the valley.”

Meanwhile, he lauded the role of management of SM Farm Padgampora for achieving the desired results during the current year.

Director Agriculture was accompanied by Deputy Director Planning, Chowdhary Mohammad Younis during the visit.
