Srinagar: An executive magistrate in Anantnag district has directed police to register an FIR against 10 PDP leaders for allegedly violating Covid Appropriate Behavioue (CAB) protocols at an event to mark party founder Mufti Mohammad Sayeed’s death anniversary, officials said on Saturday.

“Regarding the subject it is to intimate that following persons/organizers organizers of Peoples Democratic Party organized a large gathering on 07.01.2022 at the tomb of Ex. CM Mufti Mohammad Syed at Padshah Bagh Zirpara Bijbehara in complete violation of SOP’s and COVID appropriate behavior which may result in spreading of COVID-19 and other related epidemic.” reads the letter of Tehsildar Bijbehara addressed to SHO Bijbehara.

“As such you are directed to book these persons under relevant section of law with intimation to this office immediately,” the letter adds.

The organizers include former minister A R Veeri, Mehbooba Mufti’s maternal uncle, Sartaj Madni, PDP spokesperson, Najmun Saqib and others.

Manwhile, a local news agency KNO, quoting a police official said that FIR no 4/22 u/s 188 269 IPC has been registered in police station Bijbehara and further investigation has been taken up.

Reacting to the development, Peoples Democratic Party president Mehbooba Mufti said it appears that Covid norms apply only to her party and not to the BJP, which held a protest in Kashmir on Friday.

Hitting out at the administration over the order, Mehbooba tweeted, “Covid 19 restrictions apply only to PDP. Not to BJP’s protest in Kashmir yesterday, PMs rally in Punjab or the mass poojas attended by hundreds of people to pray for his safety. Talks volumes about J&K admin’s brazen bias against my party.”

Mehbooba was also part of Friday’s gathering but was not named in the order of the executive magistrate.
