Samoon asks executing agencies to complete works on polytechnics before onset of academic session

Jammu: The Principal Secretary, Skill Development Department (SDD), Dr Asgar Hassan Samoon today convened a meeting of the officers of executing agencies and Principals of Polytechnic colleges to take stock of progress of the ongoing projects besides other issues of the department.

Director, SDD was present in the meeting along with the Chief Engineers, Principals of the colleges. Kashmir based officers participated in the meeting through video conferencing.

Dr Samoon impressed upon the officers to complete the works on colleges before the onset of new academic session. He maintained that in absence of the required infrastructure the students are facing hardships in receiving the quality education.

The Principal Secretary also directed the Principals of Polytechnic colleges to install the facilities for video classes in their colleges as desired by the Chief Secretary. He said that students from far flung areas can attend classes of ace faculty members from other colleges and universities by the provision of such facility. He said that technology has reduced the gap between the rural and urban areas so better to make use of it to give our students the quality training.

Dr Samoon further asked the officers to simultaneously start the process of procurement of machinery for these colleges.

The meeting was informed that the requisite formalities have been initiated for installation of these facilities in colleges besides the work on the projects is going on at a brisk pace. The academic blocks and other labs are set to be handed over to the department by executing agencies as per the set deadlines for each of these.
