JKLF spokesman, in a statement said that police today arrested JKLF chairman Muhammad Yasin Malik when he was on his way to Jamia Masjid Srinagar to lead a peaceful protest there.

“Near Gousia Hospital Khanyar, police stopped the vehicle that Yasin Malik was driving and Superintend of Police started showering choicest abuses on JKLF chairman and the whole resistance movement.

“As the JKLF chairman objected to his misbehavior and asked him to show some control and sense, he ordered his uniformed soldiers to attack Malik. Malik was attacked and injured and was virtually dragged to police station Khanyar from where he along with another JKLF leader Bashir Kashmiri have been shifted to police station Kothibagh,” said the JKLF spokesman.

However, a police spokesman, in a statement issued here today, refuted the allegations.

The spokesman said: “Facts pertaining to the situation are that a team from police station Khanyar was on a routine ‘naka’ duty when at around 12:10 PM today afternoon, a Honda CRV vehicle (DL3C AK-2197) was intercepted by the ‘naka’ party. The travelers inside the car were requested to produce the registration papers of the said car.

“However, the travelers onboard, which included JKLF chief Yasin Malik and Bashir Kashmiri, instead of producing papers created obstruction in the lawful duty.”

The spokesman further said that police has initiated action under relevant provision of law.

Meanwhile, ridiculing the police version about the assault, a JKLF spokesman said that police assaulted Malik in front of hundreds of people who were present at the spot and among whom many made videos too.

“Ironically SP from police station Khanyar and his junior officers along with SDPO P/S Kothibagh and SHO P/S Maisuma were all deployed together to check the papers of vehicles in place of traffic police that too at Khanyar,” JKLF spokesman said.
