Srinagar, Apr 28: For Fazal ul Haseeb, a native of Sopore town who qualified the prestigious civil services 2017 examination, results of which were declared on Friday, it was his father’s life which became major motivation.
Fazal ul Haseeb was successful in bagging 36th position in the country’s qualifying exam for top-notch civil services.
Taking to the ‘Kashmir Images’ at his residence, Hyderpora, Haseeb said that he has done his schooling from Burn Hall Srinagar.
“I did my engineering in Electronics and Communication. My father, Dr Farooq Ahmad, happens to be my first inspiration to crack the civil service examination,” he says.
Haseeb had earlier qualified the preliminary stage of the examination in 2015 and 2016.
“My father’s journey of being a college teacher and then becoming an officer inspired me to do something great in my life. I had always thought that cracking the UPSC exam is the best way to serve the society,” he says.
Haseeb, who cracked the exam in his third attempt, says “I tackled every situation that came my way while I was preparing for the UPSC exam, with utmost patience and hope.
“Disappointments and mental pressure that come along with the preparation for UPSC are all temporary. Every aspirant of UPSC will turn successful, if he/she will be determined to not give up, no matter what,” he added.
Haseeb also says the “unconditional support” that he received from his family and friends helped him to qualify the exam. “I believe that I would have done nothing without the moral and emotional support of my family, especially that of my father,” he said.
Sharing his experiences for the preparation of UPSC exam, Haseeb termed consistency as the key to success. “Apart from taking into consideration basic things like hard work and accumulative knowledge, consistence with the studies is very important. Even if one studies less on routine basis that is better than studying at a stretch with huge gaps,” he stressed.
Haseeb received the news of his selection when he was on way to Gulmarg with his friends. “I remained very calm when I came to know about my selection, but after reaching home and witnessing the reaction of my family, I realised I have achieved something big. My mother was so emotional, and it was at that moment when I actually felt like I have conquered something big,” he says.
He had a word of advice for others aspiring to be in civil services. “Clarity of the syllabus and understanding all three stages of the exam is very important along with the guidance of people who have qualified it.
“I have no words to thank my friends who have guided me all the way in these years by helping me to know all the aspects of UPSC exam. Now I would love to pass on the experience that I have earned during my preparation to the aspiring candidates. I will be always available for any help they may need,” said Fazal ul Haseeb.
Another qualifier asks youth to give peace a chance
Jammu, Apr 28 (PTI) Abhishek Sharma, one of the 15 candidates from Jammu and Kashmir who qualified the prestigious civil services 2017 examination has a word of advice for the Kashmir’s youths — give peace a chance.
Sharma, who secured 69th rank in the coveted examination whose results were announced yesterday, appealed to the youth to shun violence and work for betterment of the state and the country.
“My request to the stone-pelting youth is to bring positivity in their lives…We are second to none and given a peaceful atmosphere, we can take the state and the country to new heights,” Sharma said.
Hailing from Kishtwar district, Sharma arrived here from Delhi this morning and left for his home to celebrate the success.
“Destruction is easy but construction takes a lot of effort. Our goal should be to take the state to new heights of peace and prosperity and secure the future of coming generations otherwise they too will get impacted by this (stone-pelting),” he said.
Sharma said the youth of the state should focus on their goals to make the state prosperous.
He said focus, perseverance, hard work and patience are the keys to success.
“One can get distracted easily without a focused mind and if you are able to fix a goal for yourself, you have to work for that. Make your plans and divide them into sub-plans and work accordingly to achieve your goal,” he said.
He said the news of the result came as a big relief for him because he was “trying my best for the past two years.”
“I am feeling relieved,” he said.
His father Suresh Sharma gave credit to his family and the prayers of the poor for the success of his son.
“I have been working for the betterment of the poor and want my son to work for the underprivileged and ensure zero tolerance to corruption,” he said.
Another candidate, Aamir Bashir, qualified with 843rd rank. Bashir, who hails from Mendhar area of Poonch district, asked the youth to stay away from drugs and channelise their energies in making the lives of the people and their families happy.
“This is second time I have qualified the examination in as many years…I appeared again to improve my ranking to get desired service. I have a vision and a dream and hopefully I can fulfil it now with a better ranking,” he said.
Aamir lost his father in 2006 and credits his success to his mother and teachers.
“My mother, who is posted as section officer in the state agriculture department, guided me and played an important role in my life,” he said.
At least 15 candidates from Jammu and Kashmir have qualified the prestigious civil services 2017, with three candidates from Kashmir making it to the top 100.
