Srinagar/New Delhi: Jammu and Kashmir on Friday recorded 141 fresh cases of coronavirus, taking the infected number of persons to 3,40,434 while one fresh death due to the virus was reported from the Union Territory in the past 24 hours, officials said.

Of the fresh cases, 118 were from Kashmir and 23 from the Jammu division and of the Union Territory, the officials said.

They said Srinagar district recorded the highest of 58 cases followed by 14 cases in Jammu district.

The death toll due to the pandemic has gone up to 4,519 with the addition of one fresh death reported from Kashmir Valley in the past 24 hours, officials said.

They said 142 more COVID-19 patients have recovered and were discharged from various hospitals including 113 from Kashmir and 29 from Jammu division during this period.

Meanwhile, the officials said there were 50 confirmed cases of mucormycosis (black fungus) in the UT as no fresh case was reported since Thursday evening.

On vaccination, the daily media bulletin on novel coronavirus informed that 72,949 doses of COVID vaccine were administered in the last 24 hours bringing the cumulative number of doses administered across J&K to 1,79,23,282.

According to the bulletin, out of 3,40,434 positive cases recorded cumulatively so far, currently there are 1,317 active positive cases across J&K including 979 in Kashmir and 338 in Jammu division, while as 3,34,598 persons have recovered and 4,519 have died – 2,323 in Kashmir and 2,196 in Jammu division.

Meanwhile, India recorded 122 cases of the Omicron variant of coronavirus in a span of 24 hours, the highest so far, pushing its tally in the country to 358, 114 of which have either recovered or migrated, according to Union Health Ministry data updated on Friday.

The 358 Omicron Covid variant cases have been detected across 17 states and union territories so far, it showed.

Maharashtra has recorded the highest number of 88 cases of the Omicron variant, followed by Delhi with 67, Telangana 38, Tamil Nadu 34, Karnataka 31 and Gujarat 30.

The ministry data updated at 8 am also showed that India recorded 6,650 new coronavirus infections, taking its tally of cases to 3,47,72,626, while the count of active cases has declined to 77,516.

The death toll due to the disease has climbed to 4,79,133, with 374 daily fatalities being recorded, it showed.

The daily rise in new coronavirus infections has been recorded below 15,000 for the last 57 days.

The tally of active cases has declined to 77,516, which comprises 0.22 percent of the total infections, the lowest since March 2020. The national COVID-19 recovery rate has further improved to 98.40 percent, the highest since March 2020, the ministry said.

A decrease of 775 cases has been recorded in the active COVID-19 caseload in a span of 24 hours, as per the data.

The daily positivity rate was recorded at 0.57 percent. It has been less than two percent for 81 days now.

The weekly positivity rate was recorded at 0.59 percent. This has been below one percent for 40 days now, according to the health ministry.

The number of people who have recuperated from the disease has surged to 3,42,15,977, while the case fatality rate was recorded at 1.38 percent.

The cumulative number of doses administered in the country so far under the nationwide COVID-19 vaccination drive has exceeded 140.31 crore.
