Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday recorded 132 fresh cases of coronavirus, taking the infected number of persons to 3,40,293 while three new deaths due to the virus were reported from the union territory in the past 24 hours, officials said.

Out of the fresh cases, 105 were from the Kashmir and 27 from the Jammu division of the union territory, the officials said.

They said Srinagar district recorded the highest of 40 cases followed by 34 cases in Baramulla district.

The death toll in the union territory due to the pandemic was 4,518 as three fresh deaths were reported from Kashmir Valley in the past 24 hours, they said, adding 118 more COVID-19 patients have recovered and were discharged from various hospitals including 97 from Kashmir and 21 from Jammu division during this period.

Meanwhile, the officials said, there were 50 confirmed cases of Mucormycosis (black fungus) in the union territory as no fresh case was reported since last evening.

On vaccination, the daily media bulletin on novel coronavirus informed that 72,005 doses of COVID vaccine were administered in the last 24 hours bringing the cumulative number of doses administered across J&K to 1,78,54,654.

According to the bulletin, out of 3,40,293 positive cases recorded cumulatively in J&K so far, currently there are 1,319 active positive cases across the UT including 975 in Kashmir and 344 in Jammu division, while as 3,34,456 persons have recovered and 4,518 have died – 2,322 in Kashmir division and 2,196 in Jammu division.

India’s Omicron tally at 236

New Delhi,(PTI):  India has recorded 236 cases of the Omicron variant of coronavirus across 16 states and UTs so far out of which 104 people have recovered or migrated, according to the Union Health Ministry data updated on Thursday.

Maharashtra has recorded the maximum 65 cases of the Omicron variant followed by Delhi at 64, Telangana 24, Karnataka 19, Rajasthan 21 and Kerala 15.

The ministry data updated at 8 am also showed that India recorded 7,495 new coronavirus infections taking the total tally of cases to 3,47,65,976, while the active cases increased to 78,291.

The death toll has climbed to 4,78,759 with 434 fresh fatalities, the data stated.

The daily rise in new coronavirus infections has been recorded below 15,000 for the last 56 days now.

The active cases comprise 0.23 percent of the total infections, the lowest since March 2020, while the national COVID-19 recovery rate has further improved to 98.40 percent, the highest since March 2020, the ministry said.

An increase of 101 cases has been recorded in the active COVID-19 caseload in a span of 24 hours.

The daily positivity rate was recorded at 0.62 percent. It has been less than two percent for last 80 days. The weekly positivity rate was also recorded at 0.59 percent. It has been below one percent for the last 39 days, according to the ministry.

The number of people who have recuperated from the disease surged to 3,42,08,926, while the case fatality rate was recorded at 1.38 percent.

The cumulative doses administered in the country so far under the nationwide COVID-19 vaccination drive has exceeded 139.70 crore.
