Kupwara: The Army on Tuesday objected to the construction by Pakistani Rangers on another side of the Line of Control at Teetwal in Karnah sector of Kupwara district saying that for any such construction “a general protocol is to be followed and unless prior intimation, neither of the sides can undertake such works.”

Teetwal is known for its Teethwal crossing, a bridge located on the Kishanganga river in the Karnah sector in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district.

Teetwal village falls at the zero line in the sector.

Local news agency KNO quoted a senior official saying that activities were noticed from another side of the border and accordingly response was initiated by the Indian Army to stop the “unwarranted activity by Pakistan Rangers close to the Line of Control (LoC).”

He said it was observed that the Pakistan Rangers were undertaking some construction of a structure that was responded to by the Indian Army, by objecting to it in the required manner.

Announcements were made through loudspeakers, telling the other side to stop the construction, he said.

The official said that there is a set protocol and neither of the sides can undertake any construction close to the LoC without prior intimation to the other side.

The official said that they were constructing it within a 500 meters radius of LoC which is objectionable.

It pertinent to note that the February 2021 ceasefire agreement between the two countries have ignited new hopes of peace among the local population with people saying that the special occasions have returned to the borders and they are living without threats to their lives.(KNO)
