Kashmir Birdwatch celebrates 10th anniversary

Srinagar: Kashmir’s first birding club ‘Kashmir Birdwatch’ celebrated its 10th anniversary today.

In this regard, an annual meeting of the club members was held at SKUAST Kashmir-Shalimar, Villa Willows.

The meeting commenced with a welcome address by Club’s President Tassaduq Mueen and an introductory talk by one of the co-founders, Dr Khursheed Ahmad.

Intesar Suhail, co-founder and Vice President of the club gave a presentation on “Ethics in Birding” and also presented an overview of the clubs activities.

The meeting was attended online by other dignitaries and members which included Dr Junaid Nazir Shah, a prominent bird researcher based in the UAE and the World renowned wildlife photographer Jainy Maria, who shared her birding experiences in Kashmir with the young members of the club.  Sheikh Harris, a young and upcoming birder shared a video documentation of the birds of Kashmir.

Tahir Gazanfar presented a historical perspective of the club and highlighted its role in inculcating the habits of birding among the youth of Kashmir.

The meeting was attended by a galaxy of birding fraternity of the valley including Rouf Sadiq Tantray, Shuja Alam, Sheikh Riyaz, Mehreen Khaleel, Reyan Sofi, Syed Mustahsen, M N Sofi, and others.

Future plans and upcoming events for promotion of birding in Kashmir with conservational emphasis were also discussed in detail.
