COVID-19 claims 4 more lives in Kashmir; 126 new cases reported in J&K

Srinagar: Four more lives were lost to the COVID-19 pandemic in the Valley in last 24 hours, even as Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday reported 126 fresh infections.

Of the fresh cases, 111 were reported from Kashmir and 15 from Jammu division, while all the four deaths were from Kashmir, officials said.

With today’s additions, the cumulative case tally has risen to 3,38,871 while the death toll jumped to 4,495 – 2,306 in Kashmir and 2,189 in Jammu, officials said.

Officials also said that 176 more COVID-19 patients have recovered and were discharged from various hospitals in last 24 hours, including 128 from Kashmir and 48 from Jammu division.

No new case of Mucormycosis (black fungus) was reported today, they said.

On vaccination, the daily media bulletin on novel coronavirus informed that 20,499 doses of COVID vaccine were administered in the last 24 hours bringing the cumulative number of doses administered across J&K to 1,72,71,653.

According to the bulletin, out of 3,38,871 positive cases recorded cumulatively thus far in J&K, currently there are 1,541 active positive cases across the UT, including 1,157 in Kashmir and 385 in Jammu division.

Meanwhile  With 7,774 people testing positive for coronavirus infection in a day, India’s COVID-19 tally climbed to 3,46,90,510, while the number of active cases declined to 92,281, the lowest in 560 days, according to the Union Health Ministry data updated on Sunday.

The death toll mounted to 4,75,434 with the addition of 306 new fatalities, according to the data updated at 8 am.

The daily rise in new coronavirus infections has been recorded below 15,000 for the last 45 days now.

The number of active cases has decreased to 92,281, comprising 0.27 percent of the total infections, the lowest in 560 days, while the national COVID-19 recovery rate was recorded at 98.36 percent, the highest since March 2020, the Health Ministry said.

A decrease of 996 cases has been recorded in the active COVID-19 case count in a span of 24 hours.

The daily positivity rate was recorded at 0.65 percent. It has been less than two percent for the last 69 days.

The weekly positivity rate was recorded at 0.70 percent. It has been below one percent for the last 28 days, according to the Health Ministry.

The number of people who have recuperated from the disease surged to 34122795, while the case fatality rate was recorded at 1.37 percent.

The cumulative doses administered in the country so far under the nationwide COVID-19 vaccination drive has exceeded 132.93 crore.
