Various measures to keep the menace at bay were also emphasized, the statement said.

It said another health and medical fitness drive was conducted at Dawar village wherein the population was educated on health issues and oral hygiene through lectures, posters and photographs.

The locals were also made aware about various diseases which can occur during heavy rainfall or due to unhygienic environment. They were also informed about general medication as well.

“All village elders, members of civil administration and eminent personalities of the village deeply appreciated the efforts of the Army for taking such thoughtful initiatives for the local populace of the Gurez Valley,” the statement said.

In a separate statement, Army said it is organizing tailoring classes in remote Koragbal village of Bandipora in north Kashmir for the economically and socially backward villagers who remain primarily dependant on subsistence farming and menial labour for their livelihood.

“To enable the locals to gain skillful employment, tailoring classses are being conducted at the village to impart skill-based training to the locals. The main aim of these classes is to make the youth independent and motivate them to learn new skills. Efforts invested by the Army were well appreciated by the youth and elders of the region alike,” the statement said.
