JKMAC celebrates Int’l Mountain Day at JKEDI Sempora

Pulwama: The Jammu and Kashmir Mountaineering and Adventure Club (JKMAC) today celebrated the International Mountain Day here at Jammu & Kashmir Entrepreneurship Development Institute (JKEDI), auditorium Sempora Pampore.

The theme of the event this year was “Sustainable Mountain Tourism”.

Director JKEDI, who is also the President of JKMAC, Mehmood Ahmad Shah, Muazam Bakshi, General Secretary JKMAC, and Dr. Shariq Masoodi, HOD Endocrinology SKIMS, Reyaz Ahmad Wani , President JKMBA and member of the club were present on the occasion.

General Secretary J&KMAC, Muazam Bakshi, emphasized the significance of Mountaineering and preservation of Mountain ecology. He also drew attention of the club members and dignitaries to the pollution of the mountains caused by some commercial adventure groups.

“It is the joint responsibility of everybody present here to put an end to such activities,” he emphasized, and added: “This year’s prominent club activities included expeditions to Mount Sunset in Pir Panjal Lake, and the Club also explored several high altitude lakes and meadows.”

On the occasion, prominent members gave powerpoint presentations regarding the activities of JKMAC club.

Mehmood Ahmad Shah highlighted the importance of high-altitude adventure activities and the importance of diversifying the adventure activities from mere hiking to mountain biking, skiing, swimming etc.

Shah also spoke about the importance of rescue and rehabilitation training for high altitude activities. He also paid tribute to Late Adil Shah for his contribution towards high altitude adventure activities.

“I am thankful to all the dignitaries, club members and the participants for making the function a success,” he said.
