Srinagar: Police on Thursday claimed to have solved the grenade attack in Palhalan area of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district on November 17 by arresting three “militant associates of LeT(TRF)”.
A police statement said that the accused identified as Asif Ahmad Reshi, son of Nissar Ahmad Reshi; Mehrajudin Dar, son of Sonaullah Dar; and Faisal Habib Lone, son Habibullah Lone — all residents of Gund Jehangir, Hajin in district Bandipora, were held by a joint team of Baramulla Police, Army’s 29 RR and 2nd Bn of SSB during routine patrolling at a checkpoint at Wussan area of Pattan at about 0945 hrs this morning.
They, as per police, “were spotted moving towards the ‘naka’ party in suspicious manner. On spotting the naka, these individuals made a run through the adjacent fields but were tactfully apprehended by the party”.
Two grenades were recovered from their possession, police said adding upon further questioning “and following technical leads, all three were found involved in Pattan grenade attack on 17th November of this year”.
“As per their admission, they had come to Pattan to recce the area to lob a grenade,” police said.
“Investigation has further revealed that the accused persons were given instructions by the militants across the border and aim behind the attack was to create an atmosphere of fear and chaos and to draw reaction against Kashmiri youth outside UT. All leads are being chased as further investigation is underway,” police statement said.
A case under sections of Indian Arms Act and UA (P) Act stands registered against them in Police Station Pattan and further investigation is on.
