Horti Dept organizes awareness prog for orchardists at Bandipora

BANDIPORA: The Department of Horticulture on Tuesday organised a daylong awareness programme for progressive orchardists with an aim to equip them with modern farming techniques.

A large number of farmers attended the awareness programme.

The programme was inaugurated by Chief Horticulture Officer Rajindra Kumar while experts Dr Malik Hilal from KVK, Subject Matter Experts Dr Khurshid Ahmad, Shakeel-ur-Rehman and In-charge Fruit Nursery Tahira-un-Nisa were present on the occasion.

During the programme, Subject Matter experts interacted with the farmers and informed them about different techniques of propagation, pruning and other modern scientific techniques.

The farmers were given practical training about various techniques of propagation including budding, pruning, nurturing and grafting under Mission for Integrated Development of Horticulture (MIDH).

The experts also highlighted measures for optimal plant growth and fruit yield besides discussing measures to tackle various diseases and attack of pests and insects.

A question-answer session was also held at the end of the programme.

Speaking on the occasion, CHO impressed upon the farmers to keep close liaison with the field functionaries of the department so that they are able to get maximum benefit under different schemes.

He said that the department is going to start more skill development programmes in the district with an objective to train the orchardists in various propagation techniques.
