Jammu, Apr 26:  PDP general secretary Ved Mahajn on Thursday welcomed the government decision of implementing the 7th Pay Commission in the state, reiterating the party’s pledge to address concerns of every section of the society.

In a statement issued here, Gupta said that such a measure was much needed as it has provided a major sigh of relief to more than five lakh government employees and pensioners.

He said that the “good governance on ground in Jammu and Kashmir could be gauged by the fact that the state has become the first in the country to implement the 7th pay commission recommendations with disbursement of hiked salaries being done from April this year.”

Mahajan said “it is indeed historic moment for the state as for the first time in Jammu and Kashmir’s modern history, the state employees were accorded their due rights sans any confrontation.

“It used to be a norm in the state in the past that whenever the employees were scheduled to get a pay hike during the 5th and 6th pay commissions, they had to hit the streets, face water cannons, lock offices with the leadership in jails. At present, no such thing happened and it indeed has emerged as a positive and worth to hail development,” Mahajan said.

The PDP general secretary said that despite limited resources, the State government led by Mehbooba Mufti fulfilled the promise made to the government employees about the pay hike.

“The people of the state were yearning for long the truthfulness, the earnest and the selfless courage and the strong will of the leadership. It is now a living reality in the state,” Mahajan claimed.

He added that the PDP has been prioritising its efforts to get the state out of the fiscal and political instability and “it is the way shown by the party founder Mufti Mohammad Sayeed which will guide us towards a promising, tranquil and a stable future.”

Mahajan said that the “landmark achievements” of the PDP government since inception are being hailed by one and all not only in the state but also across the country.

He added that upliftment of the downtrodden, equitable growth of all regions and proving a dignified life to each citizen of the state has been PDP’s prime focus.
