Production based incentive scheme for cocoon farmers launched in Anantnag

ANANTNAG: The Sericulture Development Department (SDD) J&K today launched a novel scheme, “Production based incentive for cocoon farmers of J&K” during a programme organized here.

The scheme was inaugurated by Director SDD J&K, Manzoor Ahmad Qadri in presence of District Development Council (DDC) Chairman, Anantnag, M Yousuf Gorsi and other officers of Sericulture Development Department Kashmir Division.

The Director on the occasion briefed the farmers about the scheme and stressed the rearers to work with added zeal, so that the purpose of increasing the productivity of cocoon crop to boost the income of farmers is achieved.

Speaking at the event, the Chairman DDC Anantnag appreciated the role of Sericulture Development Department in uplifting the economic condition of the farmers. He said that such schemes provide a platform for people to set up sustainable entrepreneurial ventures and people must come forward and derive maximum benefit from such opportunities.

He said the PRIs are regularly spreading awareness about such beneficial schemes among the public and hoped that maximum people will benefit from these welfare initiatives.

This year 150 silk worm rearers of District Anantnag and Kulgam have come under the ambit of this scheme with the disbursement of Rs 8.36 lakhs through DBT mode.
