Srinagar: A 17-year-old scooty rider died after he was hit by a truck at Kousarbal area of Damhal Hanjipora in south Kashmir’s Kulgam on Thursday afternoon, an official said.

Quoting the official, news agency KNO reported that the truck (JK05E- 5457) driven by one Yaseen Hakeem, son of Ghulam Ahmad of Zoonimar Srinagar, hit the scooty (JK18C-3955) driven by one Burhan Rashid, son of Abdul Rashid Thokar of D H Pora, Kulgam.

Burhan sustained critical injuries in the accident, the official said, adding that he was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital where doctors declared him brought dead.

A case under relevant sections of law has been registered and further investigation initiated, the official added.

Meanwhile, a motorcyclist from north Kashmir’s Bandipora who was critically injured in a road accident on Monday in Sopore succumbed to his injuries Thursday morning in a Srinagar hospital, officials said.

As per the officials, Shabir Ahmad Sofi, son of Habibullah Sofi, a resident of Ayathmulla in Bandipora was hit by a vehicle near Warpora village leaving him critically injured.

Sofi was rushed to a nearby hospital wherefrom doctors referred him to SKIMS Srinagar for advanced treatment. However, Sofi succumbed to his injuries on Thursday morning, he said.

Police have already registered a case in this regard and initiated the investigation.
