Srinagar, Oct 23: Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday recorded 72 fresh coronavirus cases, raising its tally to 3,31,566, officials said, adding that no death due to the pandemic was reported in the union territory in the past 24 hours.

Of the72 fresh cases, 63 were reported from Kashmir and nine from the Jammu division, the officials said.

They said Srinagar district recorded the highest number of 34 cases, followed by 13 cases in Baramulla district.

Moreover, 80 more COVID-19 patients have recovered and were discharged from various hospitals including 76 from Kashmir and four from Jammu division in the last 24 hours, officials said.

Meanwhile, the officials said there were 49 confirmed cases of mucormycosis (black fungus) in the union territory and no fresh case was reported since Friday evening.

On vaccination, the daily media bulletin informed that 55,281 doses of COVID vaccine were administered in the last 24 hours across the UT bringing the cumulative number of doses administered here so far to 14,155,225.

According to the bulletin out of 3,31,566 positive cases recorded cumulatively so far, currently there are 862 active positive cases across the UT including 717 in Kashmir and 145 in Jammu division, while as 3,26,275 persons have recovered and 4,429 have died – 2,254 in Kashmir and 2,175 in Jammu division.

Meanwhile  India saw a single-day rise of 16,326 new COVID-19 cases, taking the tally to 3,41,59,562, while the active cases have declined to 1,73,728, the lowest in 233 days, according to the Union Health Ministry’s data updated on Saturday.

The death toll has climbed to 4,53,708 with 666 daily fatalities, according to the data updated at 8 am.

Kerala has reconciled 292 fatalities on Saturday from the previous period. Hence, the death toll is higher, officials said, adding that 99 deaths have been reported from Kerala in the last 24 hours.

The daily rise in new coronavirus infections has been below 30,000 for 29 straight days and less than 50,000 daily new cases have been reported for 118 consecutive days now.

The active cases have decreased to 1,73,728 comprising 0.51 percent of the total infections, the lowest since March 2020, while the national COVID-19 recovery rate was recorded at 98.16 percent, the highest since March 2020, the health ministry said.

A decrease of 2,017 cases has been recorded in the total active number of COVID-19 cases in a span of 24 hours.

The daily positivity rate was recorded at 1.20 percent and the weekly positivity rate was also recorded at 1.24 percent, according to the health ministry.
