LG vows to root out militancy from J&K

Srinagar: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha Thursday said that those involved in the recent civilian killings in Kashmir “will have to pay a heavy price for their inhuman acts” and that the security forces along with the administration “won’t rest till militancy is eradicated from J&K soil”.

“If someone tries to disrupt the peace in J&K, they will be dealt with sternly and there will be a befitting reply from our side,” the LG said this morning while addressing the police commemoration day function at armed police complex Zewan, Srinagar.

He said police and the other security forces “are doing a commendable job in keeping the peace intact”.

“Be it fighting the COVID pandemic, implementing COVID-appropriate behaviour, maintaining law and order or fighting militancy, the police are on the forefront. J&K police is not popular in UT only but in the entire country for its capabilities and responsibilities,” the LG said.

“If there is a second name of J&K police, that is responsibility,” he said.

The LG said that those involved in the “gruesome killings of civilians and minority community members are enemies of peace”.

“Administration along with police and other security forces won’t allow anyone to damage the age-old communal fabric of J&K,” Sinha said.

The LG also appealed the civil society in J&K to “raise voice against civilian killings in Kashmir”.

“Condemning the heinous and inhuman killings of civilians in one voice will help administration, police and other forces to speed up their operations against militants,” he said.

“Attempts are being made by the neighbouring country to disrupt the process of peace & development in J&K. Our brave security forces will neutralize every terror threat. We will strive to preserve the communal fabric of J&K and will not rest till terrorism is completely wiped out”, said the Lt Governor.

“We are committed to peace, strengthening the social fabric and maintaining cultural harmony. Befitting reply will be given to the forces threatening sovereignty and integrity of the country,” added the LG.

According to an official press release, the LG said “I salute the families of the martyrs and assure them that J&K government will always stand by them. My sincere homage to the civilians who lost their lives in terror attacks, to the police personnel and frontline workers who laid down their lives while fighting Covid.”

“As the entire country is celebrating Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav, we must ensure stories of bravery and sacrifice of our policemen reach future generations and pass on the legacy of courage and valour,” Sinha said.

He said despite the conspiracies by the enemies, “J&K is marching on the path of development, growth and prosperity. I believe that the police personnel who are working 24X7 have an important contribution in this developmental journey,” the LG observed.

Terming youth as the biggest asset of the future socio-economic growth, the LG asked the Police department for institutional mechanism to connect with the youth, spread awareness regarding various programmes under Mission Youth, through their civic action program and encourage the younger generation to be an integral part of the nation-building process.

The LG also advised the police personnel to counter modern challenges through technology interventions and make policing more effective. “The use of technology is the need of the hour to deal with the elements creating an environment of fear and insecurity in Jammu and Kashmir,” he added.

Later, the LG handed over SRO orders to the wards of the martyrs. A blood donation camp was also organized on the occasion.

Pertinently, the commemoration parade is observed every year on October 21 as a mark of respect and remembrance of fallen police personnel killed in the line of duty.
