Three drug peddlers booked under PSA in Kupwara: Police

Srinagar: Police in Kupwara booked three notorious drug peddlers under PSA. Besides, arrested a drug peddler in Anantnag and recovered a huge quantity of contraband substances, said a police spokesperson.

“Earlier, Police in Kupwara in a series of actions have seized huge quantity of contraband substances from the possession of three notorious drug peddlers identified as Javid Ahmad son of Ali Mohammad Lone resident of Panzgam Kralpora, Shameem Ahmad son of Mohammad Tasween Bhat resident of Sudhpora Karnah, Jahangir Ahmad son of Late Rehmat Ali Khan resident of Chitterkote Karnah,” the spokesperson said.

“Accordingly, cases were registered in respective police stations and the accused were arrested. Subsequently, the cases were duly processed and after obtaining sanctions from the concerned authorities, the arrested drug peddlers was detained under Public Safety Act and shifted to Centre Jail Kotbalwal Jammu,” he said.

The spokesperson further said: “Moreover, acting swiftly on information about hoarding large quantity of contraband substances, a Police team led by SDPO Bijbehara, SHO PS Bijbehara & Incharge PP Sangam along with Executive Magistrate raided some specific locations. During the search, officers were able to recover 60Kgs of Charas powder from the house of Gh Mohi-ud-din Mantoo & 10.5Kgs of Charas from the house of Wazeer Ahmad Lone.  The accused house owner Gh Mohi-ud-din managed to flee from the spot, while as Wazeer Ahmad was arrested. He has been shifted to police station where they remain in custody. Efforts are on to effect the arrest of other involved accused person.”

“Accordingly, cases vide FIR Nos. 243/2021and 244/2021 under relevant sections of law stands registered in Police Station Bijbehara and investigation have been taken up,” he added.
