Srinagar: At least two civilians were injured in a grenade attack by militants on security forces at Rajpora Chowk in southern district of Pulwama, officials said.

Officials said that militants hurled a grenade towards a police vehicle near Shaheed Park that missed the intended target and exploded on the road.

Two civilians were injured and where rushed to hospital wherefrom they have been discharged.

The injured were identified as Jitendar Kumar son of Mahesh Kumar, a resident of Bihar and Azhar Khurshid son of Khurshid Ahmad resident of Dalipora, Pulwama.

Police sources said that soon after the attack, entire area was cordoned off and massive searches were launched to nab the attackers.

There has been a spurt in grenade attacks by militants in Kashmir in recent times.

Three persons including two women were injured in a grenade attack at Chanapora area of the city last week.

Security forces detected and defused six grenades planted by militants on the busy Parimpira-Panthachowk axis of national highway 44 on Monday.
