Local news agency KNO quoted an official from the district administration, saying that in the wake of spike in the Covid positive cases in the district Srinagar from last few weeks, the district administration has notified around 21 micro containment zones and have placed the Covid restrictions in those areas to prevent the further spread of the virus.

The official said that despite fines, there has been a complacent approach from some sections of the people who do not adhere to the Covid protocols. The administration is going to act tough against the violators and they may even face FIRs.

“For marriages, district administration had directed people to seek necessary permission as there is standing cap on the marriage gatherings and funerals, but many people have stopped seeking permission from the district administration and are resorting to huge congregations, making the entire gathering vulnerable to infection,” the official said, adding that “starting this week the drive will be intensified across Srinagar, and wherever the Covid violators are found or reported, they will be dealt with according to the law.”

On being asked about the reopening of schools in the Valley including in Srinagar district, he said the administration has sought data of vaccinated students, teachers and other staff from the institutions which will be verified and mapped with the vaccine data.

“Following the authentication of data, a formal permission will be issued to open the institutions in the district,” he added.

According to the official figures, district Srinagar has so far reported 73,159 Covid positive cases, out of which 837 have died while the district’s current active case-load is 604.

Meanwhile, Union territory of Jammu and Kashmir on Monday reported 86 Covid positive cases, out of which 48 were reported from district Srinagar. (With inputs from KNO)
