Women cycle rally held at Baramulla

Srinagar: An exclusive Women Cycle Rally was organized at Baramulla on Sunday here.

“The 65 Km cycle rally started from Baramulla and terminated at Line of Control near Kaman Aman Setu Uri. This was the first time in Kashmir that an exclusive women’s only cycling event of this magnitude was organized. 140 women from across the country pedaled all the way from Baramulla,” said PRO (Defence) Srinagar.

“The idea of an exclusive Women Cycle Rally was conceived after an open cycle rally was organised on 13th August 2021. The oldest amongst the participants was Mrs Anupama Bhave who at 75 years impressed everyone with her fitness and enthusiasm. Noted model-actor and sports enthusiast Mr Milind Soman along with his wife Mrs Ankita Konwar flagged off the event and participated also,” said Col Emron Musavi.

“Speaking on this occasion, Lt Gen DP Pandey, GOC Chinar Corps, spoke about role of women in Kashmiri society. He said that a society can only be as progressive as its women and same is true for Kashmir where women have played a key role in enriching the society,” he said.

“He exhorted young girls to take up sports for an active and healthy life. Indian Army has been consciously working towards women empowerment in Kashmir through various Sporting events. The Army will continue engaging the youth and provide requisite sporting platforms for them to achieve their potential,” he added.
