Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir Higher Education Department on Friday ordered reopening of degree colleges for in-person teaching following government’s approval to commence physical class work subject to 100 percent vaccination of students and staff against COVID-19.

The government on September 05 allowed higher education institutions to commence physical class work with limited in person teaching subject to 100 percent vaccination of staff and students.

An order issued by Secretary to the Government Higher Education Department, Sushma Chauhan while referring to the government directive, allowed degree colleges of J&K to reopen subject to specific permission of the concerned deputy commissioner of the district.

Moreover, the concerned head of institution has been asked to ensure that the guidelines related to social distancing and COVID-19 protocols are adhered to in letter and spirit.

Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha earlier on Wednesday had said that the administration was mulling to re-open all colleges and universities in Kashmir after vaccinating students above 18-years of age.

On that day, talking to reporters on the sidelines of a function at SKICC here, LG Sinha had said that the government was fully aware of the demands of parents about reopening of schools in Kashmir.

“We are planning to open colleges and universities this month only after vaccinating all the students above 18-years-of age,” Sinha had said.

He had said that after colleges and universities, government will deliberate on re-opening of primary and secondary schools as well.
