Director Agriculture visits Potato SMF Kalnag Anantnag

Srinagar: Director Agriculture Kashmir, Chowdhary Mohammad Iqbal, today visited Potato Seed Multiplication Farm (SMF) Kalnag Anantnag.

The Director visited different sections of the farm where he was briefed by concerned officers about the various latest initiatives and interventions that are being practised at the farm.

On the occasion, he held an interactive session with the concerned officers and technical staff of the SMF and said that our agro-climatic conditions are one of the best suited for seed production in the country and by taking advantage of such conducive environmental conditions we can pioneer the seed production sector.

The Director said that by exploring the potential of this sector we can become self-reliant in seed requirements of the UT besides we can also export seed to the other states of the country.

Iqbal also highlighted the importance of quality seed for a successful cropping season and asked the concerned officer to adopt all the real-time technologies for healthy virus-free potato seeds.

Later, the Director visited Soil Testing Laboratory Bijbehara Anantnag and reviewed its functioning.
