I-Day celebrations: Army organizes cycling expedition in Baramulla

Srinagar: A cycling expedition was organised under the aegis of Dagger Division in association with Jammu & Kashmir Cycling association (JKCA) to commemorate 75 yrs of India’s Independence.

“The event was flagged off from Baramulla & culminated at Kaman Post, Uri covering a distance of 75 Kms. The event had an overwhelming response from various parts of valley and other parts of North India,” reads a press release.

“Members of prominent cycling clubs like Jammu and Kashmir cycling association (JKCA), MTB Kashmir, Pro cycling club Kashmir  made a mark in the event,” it said.

The press release further said: “The cycling expedition achieved the competitive aim to foster brotherhood between Indian Army & the youth. The events provided an opportunity for the youth to showcase their talent and were ambassadors in promoting cycling as a sport which not only promotes good health but also an eco friendly sport.”

“Out of total 175 participants, 15 were national cyclists & a number of state cyclists who competed in two categories of events to include Road cycling and MTB to prove their mettle,” it said.

“Cash awards & consolation prizes to winners followed by a glittering cultural programme which added to the grand success of the event. All laid down COVID protocols were followed during this event,” it added.
