Mayor SMC, President J&K JDU call on LG

Srinagar: Junaid Azim Mattu, Mayor, Srinagar Municipal Corporation G M Shaheen, President, J&K Janta Dal United (JDU) called on Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha, at Raj Bhavan here today.

Mattu discussed with the Lt Governor about the arrangements regarding Muharram, among various other important issues pertaining to development of Srinagar City and welfare of people. Discussion was also held on transforming the urban housing infrastructure, besides empowerment of SMC corporators.

The Mayor apprised the Lt Governor about the upcoming Convention of the “Indian Mayors Forum” to be held at Srinagar in the coming months.

The Lt Governor while interacting with the Mayor observed that the UT Government is continuously working towards strengthening the grassroot democratic institutions in J&K.

He advised him for making regular improvements in the working of the Municipal Corporation for ensuring better service delivery to the people.

Meanwhile, G.M. Shaheen, President, J&K Janta Dal United (JDU) also met the Lt Governor and apprised him about the various issues of public importance pertaining to development and promotion of tourism sector in the UT.

The Lt Governor observed that the UT Government has taken several initiatives for the development and promotion of UT’s Tourism sector, the latest of which is the launch of J&K Film Policy-2021 that would create employment opportunities for the local youth besides giving a boost to tourism.

The Lt Governor urged the visiting representatives to continue their efforts for the welfare of the common people of J&K.
