“The contact with the militants was established early morning Thursday,” a defence official told KNO. “First contact was made with the militants on the intervening night of Tuesday and Wednesday last week.”

A defence spokesman in Jammu said that based on information regarding infiltration and movement of militants in the Dadal area of Sundarbani Sector, Army had launched extensive search operations from June 29.

“Subsequently, the information was corroborated on July 8, and a search and destroy patrol challenged them. The militants opened fire and lobbed hand grenades leading to a fierce encounter in which two militants from Pakistan were killed. Two AK-47 Rifles and ammunition in heavy quantity has been recovered from the militants,” the defence spokesman said.

He said that in the operation, an army (JCO) Naib Subedar Sreejith M and Sepoy Maruprolu Jaswanth Reddy were killed. “Search operation is still on,” he said.
