SRINAGAR: J&K Tourism Department today held a hand-holding session for the tourism stakeholders in which technical experts from the Industries & Commerce Department apprised them about the incentives under New Industrial Policy 2021-30.

The session was held at SKICC here where Director Tourism Kashmir, Dr GN Itoo, technical experts of I&C and representatives from travel & trade, adventure tourism, tourist guides, houseboat owners and prominent hoteliers attended.

The New Industrial Policy 2021-30 was unveiled in April this year by the government and has provided further impetus to different sectors including the key tourism sector, opening up new vistas for stakeholders and entrepreneurs alike from tourism in the region.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Itoo thanked Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha, Principal Secretary I&C and Secretary Tourism for including the tourism sector which will provide further impetus to the sector.

Presenting a brief introduction of the new scheme, he highlighted the main objective of the scheme with respect to the tourism sector and about various incentives available to the stakeholders.

While appreciating the participation of the stakeholders, Dr Itoo expressed hope that the outcome of the meeting would benefit the people associated with the tourism sector as the new incentive scheme will provide the much-required impetus to the sector.

On the occasion, a PowerPoint presentation was made by technical experts from I&C Department to tourism stakeholders where various features of the Industrial Policy with respect to the tourism sector were discussed in detail.

Among other things, the industrial policy envisages a subsidy of 100 percent on purchase or installation of diesel gen-set; incentives on pollution control devices, besides subsidy on automation under the new central sector scheme.

The session also discussed capital investment eligibility while an interactive session of questions & answers and other queries were also flagged besides the stakeholders giving their prompt feedback and various suggestions. In another session, stakeholders raised their queries and sought their replies. They appreciated the Department for holding the session.

Joint Director Tourism Kashmir, Tabassum Kamili; Deputy Director Tourism Kashmir, Dr Ahsanul Haq Chishti and other officers were also present during the session.
