Police observes Int’l Day against Drug Abuse, Illicit Trafficking

Srinagar: On the eve of International day against drug abuse and illicit trafficking, Police organized awareness rallies & seminars at various Police establishments

The main functions were organized in Budgam, Police drug de-addiction Centre Srinagar & Bandipora to aware general public about misuse of drugs and its impact on the youth.

The events were organized while following the social distancing norms and other protocols.

In Budgam, the awareness rallies & seminars were held at Budgam Town, Khansahib, Charar Sharief, Magam, Beerwah areas of district Budgam. During the rallies/seminars, students, civil society members, youth, local NGO (Team Abroo) and respectable citizens of the areas participated in the event. Banners & placards on drug abuse were displayed at prominent public places to aware the youth as well as society to stay away from drugs & about the ill effects of the drug abuse. These rallies and seminars were led by respective civil/Police officers in their respective areas.

On the occasion, SSP Budgam Tahir Saleem-JKP requested all the parents to keep close watch on their wards, their peer groups, activities and behaviour on day to day basis, so that they do not get involved in anti-social activities.

In Srinagar, International day against drug abuse was celebrated at youth development and rehabilitation centre Eidgah Srinagar. The program was chaired by Dr. Mohd Muzaffar Khan and co chaired by Dr. Manzoor, Suhail Khan and Shabir. The program was attended by recovered patients, affected families, civil society members, Doctors, staff members of YD&RC and other professionals.

On the occasion, Dr Muzaffar, in-charge Youth Development and Rehabilitation centre emphasized on the menace of rising drug addiction in the valley, its harmful effects and possible ways of drug de-addiction. He shared some facts about the drug menace and stressed upon the treatment methods. Dr. Manzoor medical officer stressed upon the relapse prevention techniques. Suhail Khan also shared his experience regarding the alarming level of drug menace. He requested the audience especially the patients to engage their wards with technical skills.

Shabir gave a religious touch by saying that drugs are prohibited by all religions as they lead to innumerable crimes resulting in the turmoil in the society.

During the event, some of the admitted patients also shared their experiences and the problems they face in getting back on track. Attendants and parents also shared their agony caused by the devastating effects of drugs.

In Bandipora, International day against Drug abuse and illicit Trafficking was organised at DPL Bandipora. The program was chaired by DYSP DAR Bandipora Ishfaq Alam and was attended by Prof Mohmad Ismayil Ashna (Patron Mehboobul Alam Group of Institutions), respectable citizens, civil society members, educationists, students of Space Age Higher Secondary Institute Kaloosa, youths and officials/jawans of Bandipora police also participated in the event.

On the occasion, DySP DAR Bandipora said that the main aim of observing this day is to create awareness & strengthening action/cooperation in order to make the society free of drug abuse and illicit trafficking.

Prof Mohmad Ismayil Ashna in his address said that drugs abuse needs a holistic approach with the close cooperation of all persons/institutions be it law enforcement, schools, parents, civil society and religious preachers. He appreciated the effort of Bandipora police under the supervision of SSP Bandipora Mohmmad Zahid for cracking down on drug traffickers/peddlers. The event was also addressed by some educationists and civil society members.
