“Late Rifleman Mandeep Singh Negi was deployed on a forward post in the Gulmarg Sector. On 24 June 2021, the weather suddenly packed up and was followed by severe thundering at various locations in the higher reaches. Late Rifleman Mandeep Singh Negi was performing his duties on a post where lightning struck him and he died on the spot,” he said.

The spokesperson further said: “Late Rifleman Mandeep Singh Negi was 23 years old and had joined the Army in March 2018. He belonged to village Saknoli of Pauri Garhwal, Uttarakhand. He is survived by his parents.”

“The mortal remains of the Braveheart were taken for the last rites to his native place, where he would be laid to rest with full military honours. In this hour of grief, the Army stands in solidarity with the bereaved family and remains committed to their dignity and wellbeing,” he added.
