No let up in student protests in north Kashmir

Baramulla: Even though government ordered suspension of class work for several days in colleges and higher secondary schools of north Kashmir’s Baramulla, Kupwara and Bandipora districts in the wake of protests against Kathua rape and murder case, there is no let up in student protests that continued to rock north Kashmir on Wednesday and police used force to quill the protests.

Students of Degree College Baramulla staged protest demonstration against arrest of students by police during protests against the Kathua rape.

Shouting anti BJP slogans, the protesting students demanded strict action against accused.

Witness said that protest turned violent after police came inside college campus and tried to disperse protesting students resulting into clashes in which two students were arrested.

In neighbouring town Sopore students at Women’s Degree College Sopore staged strong protests against the Kathua rape and murder. The protesting students dispersed peacefully at Iqbal Market Sopore.

Meanwhile, students of Government Boys Higher Schools of Baramulla and other adjacent schools took to streets and staged protest against arrest of girl students by police in Baramulla and demanded justice for Kathua rape and murder victim.

Students of Higher Secondary School Fathegarh in Sheeri Narwav and High School Hadipora in Rafiabad tpp staged protest demonstrations.

Clashes between protestors and students were reported from the area.

In Uri town, students of the Government Degree College, Higher Secondary and High Scholl Uri jointly staged a massive protest in solidarity with the eight-year-old Kathua victim.

A huge gathering of students from three different institutions took out a protest march demanding justice to the victim family and capital punishment to the culprits.

In Handwara town, students staged strong protest and  later marched towards main market Handwara and blocked national highway there.

Police swung into action and dispersed the protesters which resulted in minor clashes in the area.

In Bandipora, students of Government Degree College Bandipora took a protest march from college premises holding placards in favour of the 8-year-old victim.

Another protest march was witnessed from Higher Secondary School Arin and Nadihal after students took out a protest march in solidarity with the victimized nomad family.
