Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha today dismissed the rumours that were floating all over from past few days regarding the future of the Union Territory.
In an exclusive interview with a TV channel, Sinha said that all these rumours are false and are being spread by those, within and without, with ill intentions.
When asked that the rumours started spreading following his meetings with country’s top leaders, Sinha said: “My meeting with Home minister was pre-scheduled and I had sought a meeting with the Prime Minister which the later agreed to.”
“All the rumours being spread in Jammu and Kashmir, in Delhi and other countries by vested interests are false. I vehemently dismiss such rumours,” he said.
When asked by other countries does he mean Pakistan, Sinha said, “I haven’t named any country. You go to social media and find yourself who are spreading the rumopurs.”
He said that the Union Territory is marching in the right direction be it Covid management, developmental works, tourism and other sectors.
“So there are people who have now nothing to drum up and thus they resort to rumours mongering to target the emotions,” he said.
When asked about the rumours regarding further bifurcation of Jammu and Kashmir and granting statehood to Jammu, the LG said that these is no truth in these rumours and it is a conspiracy to confuse the common people.
He said that common people have nothing to do with these rumours and these are being spread by the people with vested interests.
Regarding the reported paramilitary troops movement, LG said that there has been no extra ordinary movement all. He said that some troops had been deployed for election duties in different states, they have returned and some were in quarantine and they too have resumed their duties.
“Besides, during Amarnath Yatra, there is always some additional security bandubast,” he said.
Commenting on commencement of Amarnath Yatra, the LG said that the registration for the Yatra was started but then halted due to surge in Covid-19.
“Saving peoples’ lives is more important. We have by and large succeeded in containing Covid surge. The situation will be analysed and then only any decision would be mad about the Yatra,” said Sinha.
About the conduct of elections in J&K, Sinha said that Prime Minister has already said that once delimitation process is complete, elections to the UT assembly would be held. He said that the Delimitation commission under the Election Commission of India is doing its job and once it submits its final report, elections will be held.
Commenting on whether National Conference should take part in delimitation commission deliberations, the LG said that delimitation commission is a parliamentary decision and if NC takes part, it will be fulfilling its responsibility.
Commenting on the security scenario of the J&K, the LG said: “Terror incidents and recruitment in terror groups has come down. The security forces have an upper hand right now. He however, added that a few recent incidents will be properly investigated and law will take its own course.
