It was informed that water supply in some parts of Srinagar City remained affected for the last few days due to issues in Power Canal of Ganderbal Preng and Sindh Extension Canal which is the only source of raw water to four Water Treatment Plants of PHE department from which water is supplied to major portion of Srinagar City.

The water was being used for power generation and irrigation of local fields which considerably reduced raw water supplies to the treatment plant. The matter was taken up with Power Development Corporation and as a result the power generation at Ganderbal was stopped to spare water for drinking and irrigation purposes. The supply position has been restored to normal now.

The concerned Chief Engineer and Executive Engineer of Jal Shakti Department informed that the water supply to the Srinagar city at the moment is quite normal as 93 MGD (Million Gallon per day) is being supplied to  the city and its outskirt through 9 modern water treatment plants which are running quite normal and to their full capacity.

They further apprised that there are some pockets in city like parts of Omer Colony including Gousia Mohalla which fall at the tail end of the water supply system and get water for a limited duration only. This situation shall be countered by installation of a new production well at Malbagh replacing an already abandoned tube well for which finances have been arranged under Capex this year.

People have been asked to immediately contact the control room of PHE Jal Shakti Department at telephone numbers 0194-2452047, 0194-2477207 in case of any problem related to water supply to their respective area.
