Chief Engineer, Jal Shakti Department, Iftikhar Ahmad, Superintendent Engineer, Jal Shakti Department, Hydraulic Circle Pulwama besides Executive Engineers, Technical Officer JJM and concerned officers accompanied the Mission Director.

MD inspected WSSs Chandhara, Gundipora and Uzampathri Nikas and other schemes where he interacted with the general public and sought feedback regarding the implementation of Jal Jeevan Mission.

On the occasion, locals of Gundipora village apprised Dr Abid of the non availability of an iron removal plant at the WSS. He directed the concerned Executive Engineer to initiate the process of tendering for works and ensure adherence to project timeline so that potable drinking water will be provided to the locals.

MD said that Jal Jeevan Mission has been launched with an aim to provide portable drinking water facility to every household under the slogan “Har Ghar Nal Se Jal” and it becomes prime concern of all stakeholders to work earnestly towards achieving this goal.

It was informed that in Pulwama and Shopian division about 70 per cent work under JJM has been completed, so far. He said the government has earmarked a  huge amount of about ₹ 512 crore under 232 schemes to be spent in twin districts of Shopian and Pulwama where some schemes have been completed in all respects and others are at different phases of execution. He reiterated the commitment of JJM J&K in providing portable drinking water to every household with quality assurance.

It was also given that Pulwama and Shopian districts have achieved 100 per cent coverage of tap water connection to Anganwadis besides 96 to 98 per cent to schools.

Dr Abid asked the officers to complete the remaining works within this month.

“Efforts are made to provide tap water connections to the remaining households as well as to reach out to those villages where there is no water supply system so far,” he asserted.

Dr Abid reiterated that coordinated efforts have been put in place to achieve the target of providing every rural household with Functional Household Tap Connection (FHTC) by September, 2022. He further laid stress on public participation in the effective implementation of the mission.
