J&K reports 1,440 COVID-19 cases, 23 deaths

Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir recorded 1,440 new COVID-19 cases and 23 fatalities on Sunday, pushing its infection tally to 3,00,490 and the death toll to 4,074, officials said.

Of the fresh cases, 1,102 from Kashmir Valley and 338 were from Jammu division, they said.

Srinagar district recorded the highest number of 264 cases of the infection, followed by Budgam with 145, the officials said.

They said 23 COVID-19 deaths were reported — 15 from Kashmir and eight from Jammu division – during the past 24 hours.

Moreover, 3,099 more COVID-19 patients have recovered and have been discharged from various hospitals during this period – this includes 2179 from Kashmir and 920 from Jammu division.

The officials also said there were 15 confirmed cases of mucormycosis (black fungus) in the union territory, and no fresh case was reported since Saturday evening.

According to the daily media bulletin on novel coronavirus (COVID-19), out of 3,00,490 positive cases recorded cumulative thus far, currently there are 26,741 active positive cases across the UT, while 2,69,675 have recovered and 4074 have died — 2093 in Kashmir and 1981 in Jammu division.

The bulletin further said that out of 88,47,766 test results available, 85,47,276 samples have tested negative till June 06, 2021.

It said till date 21,59,888 persons have been enlisted for observation which included 79,829 persons in home quarantine including facilities operated by the government, 26,741 in isolation and 1,46,053 in home surveillance while 19,03,191 persons have completed their surveillance period.
