Secretary Sports Council holds series of meetings with sports associations

Srinagar: With an aim to upgrade the existing sports facilities and bring them at par with best sports facilities across the country, Secretary J&K Sports Council, Nuzhat Gull today toured various playfields, indoor stadiums and other sports facilities in Baramulla and Bandipora districts.

The Secretary Sports Council also had a meeting with District Development Commissioner Bandipora, Dr. Owais Ahmad regarding various issues pertaining to the sports in the district.

On laying new sports facilities in the district, it was decided to earmark the land for the same on priority, besides discussing the advent of water sports, boxing and wrestling activities in the district.

She met sports clubs representatives and urged them to play an active role in the sports and anti-drug campaigns.

Later, Secretary Sports Council visited Sheri Kashmir Sports Stadium Bandipora where she directed the team of engineers from construction division Kashmir for face-lifting of pavilion and dismantling of old change rooms. Gull directed the team to construct a new block with a hall to be made available for Boxing and Table tennis etc.

The Secretary also visited Khushal Sports Stadium, Sopore where she gave on spot directions to the accompanying team of officials for immediate preparation of turf wicket and construction of synthetic volleyball court.

She also gave instructions for completion of pavilion block on war footing and purchase of machinery and met a delegation of players. She urged players to urge youth to join sports activities and assured them of all possible assistance. She gave an ear to their demands and assured for early redressal.

The Secretary also visited Shadipora, Sumbal sports facilities and directed the CDK team to ensure availability of clean water supply in the premises for use by athletes. She also gave standing instruction for installation of exhaust fans for proper ventilation besides facelifting of the existing indoor sports hall.

The Secretary during the visit was accompanied by Dr. Zaffar Iqbal, Chief Accounts Officer Sports Council, Iqbal Ahmed Executive Engineer CDK, Irfan Ahmad, Technical Officer and Nuzhat Farooq, Divisional Sports Officer Kashmir and other officers and officials of the Sports Council.
