DHSK goes for ‘roadside sampling’ of people ‘roaming unnecessarily’

Srinagar: Department of Health Services Kashmir (DHSK) Monday carried out random sampling of people at several parts of the city including at Jehangir Chowk here to ensure restrictions imposed in the wake of COVID-19 surge are not violated.

Officials at the DHSK told ‘Kashmir Images’ that mobile squads were deployed at many places in Srinagar to conduct Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) of people found “roaming unnecessarily” on roads amidst  Corona-Curfew.

This step, according to officials, was taken to curtail unnecessary movement of people on roads at a time when Valley including Srinagar is facing surge in COVID-19 positive cases and related deaths.

DHSK together with local police conducted random sampling of many people at Jehangir Chowk.

A police official also said the drive was carried out to curtail public movement in Srinagar to slowdown the spread of COVID-19. He also said that most of the people who were tested were found roaming unnecessarily on the roads.

A medico said the exact number of people tested and subsequently found positive cannot be ascertained till final report comes.

He however said the roadside testing will continue in Srinagar and people roaming pointlessly will undergo on-the-spot testing.
