Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday recorded 3,967 fresh coronavirus cases taking the infection tally to 2,51,919 while 71 fatalities in a span of 24 hours took the death toll to 3,293 in the union territory, officials said.

Out of the fresh cases, 2,263 are from the Kashmir Valley and 1,704 were reported from the Jammu division, they said.

The officials said Srinagar district recorded the highest number of 666 cases, followed by 522 in Jammu district and 454 in Budgam district.

The union territory recorded its second biggest single-day spike in the death toll with 71 patients succumbing to the disease in the past 24 hours — 39 from Jammu division and 32 from Kashmir Valley.

With these deaths the cumulative toll in the union territory due to the pandemic rose to 3,293.

Officials also said that during past 24 hours, 3823 more COVID-19 patients have recovered and have been discharged from various hospitals — including 1360 from Jammu division and 2463 from Kashmir Valley.

According to the daily media bulletin on novel Covid-19, out of a cumulative total of 2,51,919 positive cases recorded thus far,  currently there are 50,925 active positive cases in J&K, while 1,97,701 have recovered and 3293 have died — 1761 in Kashmir Valley and 1532 in Jammu division.

The bulletin further said that out of 79,96,880 test results available, 77,44,961 samples have been tested as negative till May 18, 2021.

Till date 19,83,113 persons have been enlisted for observation which included 75,443 persons in home quarantine including facilities operated by government, 50,925 in isolation and 1,24,809 in home surveillance. Besides, 17,28,643 persons have completed their surveillance period, the bulletin informed.
