Baramulla, Apr 16: An porter working with the Army was killed in Uri while as an Army officer was critically injured when his service rifle went off accidentally in Kupwara district on Monday.

A top Army officer said that Army porter Khursheed Ahmad (37), son of Mohammad Sharif of Nawa Runda, was killed in a “ceasefire violation by Pakistan”.

The porter working with Army’s  4 Madras unit, received a bullet injury in the neck and some grenade splinters in both legs near Chaukas — fired by the Pakistani army, the officer said.

He said Khursheed suffered multiple wounds in the incident and died on the spot.

SSP Baramulla Mir Imtiyaz Hussain confirmed that the porter died in “ceasefire violation” by Pakistan army. A police party from police post Audoosa has been deputed to spot for further necessary action, he said.

Meanwhile, an army officer was injured critically after his service rifle went off accidentally in Kandi forest area of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district.

Sources said Captain VK Sahu of 47 RR, posted at Keegam, received bullet injury in the incident. The seriously injured officer was immediately shifted to Drugmulla military hospital for treatment.

Meanwhile, a policeman undergoing a training died at police training school (PTS) Manigam here in central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district on Monday evening.

An official said that a trainee Head Constable Abdul Rashid Dar of Samboora Pulwama,  who was undergoing a training course at PTS Manigam, fell unconscious during evening  parade at parade ground.

He was shifted to District Hospital Ganderbal where he was declared brought dead.
