Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir on Friday reported a record single-day spike of 5,443 new COVID-19 cases even as 50 more patients succumbed to the disease in the last 24 hours.

As per the government data, among the fresh cases, 3,575 were reported in Kashmir Valley and 1,868 in Jammu division of the Union territory.

Of the 50 fresh fatalities, 29 of them were reported in Jammu while 21 were reported in Kashmir taking the overall tally in J&K to 2,612 – of them 1,515 are from Kashmir and 1,097 from Jammu.

Currently, there are a total of 44,307 active cases in J&K — 28,736 in Kashmir and 15,571 in Jammu, the data reveals.

Officials also said that during last 24 hours, 2752 COVID-19 patients have recovered and have been discharged from various hospitals – these include 1798 from Kashmir and 954 from Jammu division.

According to the daily media bulletin on novel coronavirus (Covid-19), out of 2,06,954 positive cases detected thus far, 44,307 are currently active positive, 1,60,035 have recovered and 2,612 have died

The bulletin further said that out of 75,57,656 test results available, 73,50,702 samples have been tested as negative till May 07, 2021.

Till date 18,85,550 persons have been enlisted for observation which included 87,419 persons in home quarantine including facilities operated by government, 44,307 in isolation and 1,23,485 in home surveillance. Besides, 16,27,727 persons have completed their surveillance period.
