Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday recorded its biggest single-day spike with 4,650 fresh COVID cases, taking the tally to 1,91,869, even as 37 fatalities over the last 24 hours took the toll to 2,458, officials said.

Out of the fresh cases, 3,187 were from the Kashmir Valley and 1,463 were from the Jammu division of the union territory, they said.

The officials said Srinagar district recorded the highest of 1,311 cases, followed by 598 in Jammu district and 417 in Anantnag district.

The number of active cases has reached 37,302 in the union territory, while 1,52,109 patients have recovered so far, the officials said.

The death toll in the union territory due to the pandemic rose to 2,458 as 37 fresh deaths — 25 in Jammu region and 12 in Kashmir Valley — were reported in the past 24 hours.

Officials said 1878 more COVID-19 patients have recovered and have been discharged from various hospitals including 1247 from Kashmir and 631 from Jammu division during the past 24 hours.

According to the daily media bulletin on Covid-19, out of 191869 positive cases detected thus far, 37302 are currently active positive, 152109 have recovered and 2458 have died; 1006 in Jammu division and 1452 in Kashmir division.

The bulletin further said that out of 7418169 test results available, 7226300 samples have been tested as negative till May 04, 2021.

Till date 1844022 persons have been enlisted for observation which included 90390 persons in home quarantine including facilities operated by government, 37302 in isolation and 114217 in home surveillance. Besides, 1599655 persons have completed their surveillance period, the bulletin informed.
