Director Agriculture Jammu launches Dakshyani Turmeric Project

JAMMU: To promote the production of organic turmeric, Director Agriculture Production & Farmers Welfare Jammu, K. K. Sharma, today formally launched the Dakshyani Organic Turmeric Project here at Krishi Bhawan Jammu.

Those present on the occasion included S. Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal, Chairperson, Kisan Gurukul; Sanjeev Kumar, President Sahara Jagriti Manch; Chief Agriculture Officer Jammu, A. S. Reen; Chief Agriculture Officer Kathua, Vijay Upadhya; Chief Agriculture Officer Samba, Sanjay Verma besides others.

Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal of Kisan Gurukul deliberated in detail regarding different aspects of the project and gave out that the main objective of the project is production of organically grown turmeric by active participation of 50000 farm women of seven districts of Jammu Division including Jammu, Samba, Kathua, Udhampur, Reasi, Udhampur, Rajouri and Poonch.

The collaborating members for the implementation of said project will be Sahara Jagrati Manch Krishi & Gramin Vikas Sanstha, Krishi Gurukul, SKUAST-J and Department of Agriculture Production & farmers Welfare, Jammu.

In his address, the Director Agriculture said that Dakshyani Project will go a long way in uplifting the socio-economic status of the farming community and will prove to be a big milestone in the field of organic farming in Jammu Division.

“The Project will provide a buyback facility to the turmeric growers through National Federation of Framers’ Procurement, Processing and Retail Cooperatives Of India Ltd (NACOF) Chandigarh as Nodal Agency,” he added. He further informed that all technical support as well as turmeric seed will be made available to the farm women free of cost under the project.
