J&K records highest daily spike of 3,164 COVID-19 cases, 25 deaths

Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday recorded its highest single-day spike of 3,164 COVID-19 cases, which took the tally to 1,66,054, while 25 fatalities over the last 24 hours took the toll to 2,197, officials said.

Out of the fresh cases, 2,134 were from the Kashmir Valley and 1,030 were from the Jammu division of the union territory, they said.

The previously highest daily count was recorded on April 25 when 2381 people had tested positive for the virus.

The officials said Srinagar district recorded the highest of 1,144 cases, followed by 489 in Jammu district and 197 in Baramulla district.

Budgam officials said recorded 174 fresh cases, Pulwama 70, Kupwara 97, Anantnag 143, Bandipora 123, Ganderbal 66, Kulgam 90, Shopian 30, Udhampur 65, Rajouri 68, Doda 41, Kathua 100, Samba 98, Kishtwar 30, Poonch 39, Ramban 40 and Reasi 60.

The number of active cases has reached 22,283 in the union territory, while 1,41,574 patients have recovered so far, the officials said.

Officials also said that during past 24 hours, 1457 more COVID-19 patients have recovered—656 from Jammu and 801 from Kashmir.

The death toll in the union territory due to the pandemic rose to 2,197 as 25 fresh deaths were reported in the last 24 hours. Of the fresh deaths, officials said, 15 were from Jammu while 10 from Kashmir.

There are currently 22283 active positive cases in J&K, 13436 in the Valley and 8847 in Jammu division.
