Srinagar: The Srinagar-Leh national highway was on Monday reopened for one-way traffic for all types of vehicular movement, officials said here.
An order, a copy of which lies with Kashmir News Observer (KNO) said that it is hereby notified for information of the general public and stakeholders that the Srinagar-Sonamarg-Gumri road is hereby declared open for one way traffic, for all types of vehicular movement.
“The conditions as per order are the Traffic movement on April 26 on the SSG road shall be upward viz, Kashmir to Ladakh and vice versa with cut off timing. Timing of traffic movement shall be 10:30 am (Sonamarg) & 11:00 am from Meenamarg Kargil,” it reads.
It reads that there shall be the establishment of a health check-up centre and also the establishment of a traffic check Post at Sonamarg including the presence of Police detachments for traffic control along the route.
“There shall be recovery Van at Sonamarg and along the Upper Alignment of Srinagar-Sonamarg-Gumri Road for removal of stranded vehicles, operationalisation of Weighing Bridge at Sonamarg. It shall be ensured that vehicles are in good condition and loaded with sow tyre and anti-skid chains before allowing them to ply,” the order states.
It states that district superintendents of Police, Ganderbal and Kargil shall obtain road clearance certificate from Project Beacon on a daily basis before allowing any vehicle to ply.
“District Authorities shall also consider weather advisory on daily basis before allowing the traffic movement and a Joint Control Rooms of Traffic, Civil, Police and MED shall be established and all advisories regarding mitigation of COVID-19 shall also be adhered to in letter and spirit,” it reads.
The order states that Further, it should be ensured that vehicles should be preferably 4×4 or mechanically sound and vehicles should not be overloaded and should carry load as per permissible tonnage.
“Also drivers driving the vehicles should be experienced and familiar with the said hilly road. The movement of trucks should go in convoy properly escorted from head and tail end. However, timing of movement of convoy shall be decided by District administration and Traffic Police and Beacon Authorities,” it reads. (KNO)
