1,965 fresh COVID-19 cases, 8 more deaths reported in J&K

J&K reports 1,144 new COVID-19 cases, 2 deaths

Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday recorded 1,965 fresh COVID-19 cases that took the union territory’s cumulative tally to 1,54,407 while eight more fatalities pushed the death toll to 2,092, officials said.

Of the fresh cases, 1,176 were reported from the Kashmir Valley and 789 from the Jammu division, they said. The fresh cases also include 243 travelers — 108 in Jammu division and 135 in Kashmir.

Srinagar district recorded the highest number of fresh cases at 590, followed by 469 in Jammu and 198 in Baramulla.

Providing district-wise details, the officials said that Budgam reported 68 fresh cases, Pulwama 62, Kupwara 54, Anantnag 105, Bandipora 13, Ganderbal 23, Kulgam 35, Shopian 28, Udhampur 68, Rajouri 45, Doda 27, Kathua 31, Samba 31, Kishtwar 15, Poonch 13, Ramban 39 and Reasi 51.

They said there are currently 16094 actives cases in the J&K—9333 in Kashmir and 6761 in Jammu.

So far, 1,36,221 patients have recovered from the disease, the officials said.

They said 791 more COVID-19 patients have recovered during past 24 hours — 549 from the Valley and 242 from Jammu division.

Meanwhile, the J&K government spokesman and Principal Secretary PDD and Information, Rohit Kansal has also tested positive for COVID-19, he said on Twitter.

“After dodging the Coronavirus for the entire last year, I have tested positive today; have some symptoms- but my spirits are high. #WeShallOvercome,” Kansal tweeted this evening.

Kansal had got his first dose of COVID-19 vaccine on April 09 at Gandhinagar hospital.
